Kazakhstan was informed on beginning of antiterrorist actions in Afghanistan

Astana, October 8, 2001. (CNA). Late on October 7, under the instruction of the US President the US State Secretary Collin Powell informed the Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbaev on beginning of antiterrorist actions in Afghanistan, Kazakh Foreign Ministry said.

According to Foreign Ministry, the US Secretary of State stressed, that the operation carried out by US and its allies, is aimed at annihilating Al-Qaida terrorist organization, its leaders and military objects of this Islamic organization based in Afghanistan. Powell said that the US undertook all necessary measures on preventing victims among the peaceful population of Afghanistan as well as rendering humanitarian aid.

Kazakh President instructed regional leaders and force structures to provide safety of highly important state objects of Kazakhstan as well as diplomatic corps in the state.
